This one begins – as many of the best African stories do – under a vast, starry sky in the Richtersveld round a crackling fire, tongs in hand. Having spent many an evening scorching fingers braaing on their balcony in Cape Town, three friends began to dream of a long tong that didn’t require the bending and burning ritual.

And so, sometime later, just before Heritage Day in 2021, on a humble kitchen counter, the very first Donkey Long Tong was born – designed to spare hands and backs while keeping the fire magic alive. Since then, the brand has grown and developed a braai range that is as beautiful as it is functional. Each piece is thoughtfully designed and proudly produced right here in Cape Town, using top quality local materials and craftsmanship that speak to South Africa’s rich heritage and spirit of ingenuity.
